Commercially introduced by Two Seeds in a Pod Heirloom Seed Co
Seed crop 2015
Cucumis melo var. dudaim
Semmame is the smallest pocket melon we have ever grown. Creamy white flesh of the 2” fruits is not sweet and the flesh is bland but the ripe fruits have a heavenly scent. This variety originated in Eastern Turkey where the pocket melons were once commonly grown.
After harvest, we love to keep the fruits in a bowl to fill the whole room with their strong, almost tropical aroma. Semmame belongs to the family of pocket melons (melon de poche in French) as pocket melons were used as a substitute to perfume by women in France, before the perfume was invented. The plants are very productive as well. Very rare and commercially introduced by us.
