Traditional basil of Southern Turkey. Small, compact plants have dark purple, almost black leaves. Leaves have amazing, very fragrant aroma that holds flavor even when dried. One of our most favorite plants to grow in the field due to its culinary and ornamental characteristics.
In Turkish, fesleğen refers to any basil with green leaves whereas reyhan refers to basil in general in Southern Turkey. On the other hand, we haven’t gotten to know a basil variety from Turkey that is called reyhan and that is not purple.
Our current seed stock was grown by Lindsay Klaunig of Trouvaille Farm in Ohio.
