An heirloom melon variety from Turkey, Akbal is commonly grown in Northwest Peninsula, Gönen and Bandırma. Fruits have white rind with green stripes and salmon-color flesh with excellent, very sweet flavor. Fruits usually weigh in the 6-10 lb range. Yield is 6-8 ton/acre.

Did not perform well in our region. This was a late season melon for our area. The plants only produced a few fruits on the vines. We have had better production from earlier sseason melons. We were disappointed in the performance of this variety and the production!
