Strawflower Seeds
Xerochrysum bracteatum
Native to Australia, straw-like, papery blooms of strawflower can tolerate high heat and dry conditions. Leaves draw in pollinators and flowers can stay colorful for years to come if stored in a dry location after harvest.
Growing tips:
- Sow indoors 3-4 weeks prior to last frost or direct-sow after last frost.
- Transplant in fertile soil with good drainage.
- Cut frequently to encourage flower formation.
- If you are growing for the market, trellis and tie around the plants to keep flower quality high so that the plants don’t tip over.
- Dry flowers by cutting stems 12″ below the flower and hanging them upside down.
