Commercially introduced by Two Seeds in a Pod Heirloom Seed Co
Seed crop 2014
Turkish Ayla is a family heirloom originally from Adiyaman province. This variety was introduced to the heirloom growers in 2012 by a summer camp teacher, Jennifer Ibarra, of Connecticut. Jennifer got the seeds from one of her students whose parents brought the seeds from Turkey. Turkish Ayla has been with the family for at least three generations and is named after the student, Ayla, by Dr Carolyn Male. Plants are indeterminate, have regular leaf and produce mid-size fruits. Flavor is very good and more on the acidic side.
