Music is one of our most favorite porcelain-type hardneck garlic varieties we grow on our farm year after year. Strong, hardy and vigorous plants produce very large bulbs with 4-6 cloves. Music has robust flavor with medium heat that mellows down when cooked.

Bulbs we offer this year have been stewarded by Lindsay Klaunig and selected for good flavor, large bulbs, and ease to peel for fifteen years.

Our seed garlic was grown using organic practices by Lindsay Klaunig of Ohio.

Growth habit: Plants grow upward slowly through winter and its papery leaves get tall in spring. Hardneck varieties produce scapes that have seedheads attached to stalks that emerge through leaves. Hardneck garlic has stiff main stalks while the main stalk of softneck garlic is soft and "dies off" when the bulbs are ready to harvest.

Growing tips: In most hardiness zones, plant in October-November for best results. Don't separate the cloves before it is time to plant them. Preferably, soak the cloves in water with dissolved kelp meal in it. Plant in Nitrogen and Potassium rich beds. Unless your climate is very harsh in winter, we recommend you to not mulch your beds since mulching may sometimes promote rotting and other diseases. Southernmost growers need to vernalize bulbs in paper bags with airholes in them in fridge for 8-9 weeks prior to planting in fall. 3-4 days after the hardneck varieties form scapes, cut them to eat and to encourage larger bulbs.
