Description

90 days. Country Gentleman has been popular among home gardeners, especially in the Northeast since its first appearance in commercial seed catalogs in 1890’s.

Round kernels have irregularly shaped rows. Delicious ears are usually around 8 in and stay in milking stage longer than many other sweet corn varieties. Each plant produces two ears per stalk on average.

Our current seed stock was grown by Randal Norville of Dragonfly Farms in TN.

Packet has ~1 oz (28 gr) of (100-125) seeds

  • Zea mays
  • Needs full sun
  • Planting depth: 1-2″
  • Sprouts in 7-10 days
  • Ideal growing temperature: 75-80F
  • Plant spacing: 12″
  • Frost hardy: No
  • Growth habit: Upright growth with ears forming on the stalks
  • Growing tips: Directly sow corn seeds in well-drained, compost-rich soil after last frost and when soil temperature reaches 75-80F. Keep soil moist but not water-logged. Fertilize with fish emulsion mid-season once every week. For better pollination and full ears, plant in the form of square blocks instead of long, skinny blocks. Continuously monitor for corn earworms to protect your crop. Avoid planting open-pollinated varieties closer than 1 mile distance to GMO corn, if any near your garden/farm.
