Description

An heirloom green bean that has been stewarded in West Virginia for generations, Logan Giant is praised by our friends Mike Costello and Amy Dawson of Lost Creek Farm for its flavor and versatility. This very productive pole bean variety has large, brown seeds with white frosting pattern on them. It is both great as a snap and dry bean, and folks also use the pods to make leather britches.

Our new, special strain of Logan Giant has been stewarded by Lou Mauri of Summersville, WV, for 60 years. This specific strain has darker patterns on the seeds while the plants produce pods that have the same excellent flavor and yields you are familiar with the commonly known Logant Giant bean.

Our original seeds came from our Mike Costello and Amy Dawson. You can read more about Mauri in the article written by Mike Costello in the Daily Yonder. Also, tune in to Pickle Shelf Radio Hour-Batch No. 1, Jar No. 4: Obsessions, Love Affairs and Other Seedy Stories to find more about West Virginia’s seed savers.

Our current seed stock was grown by Corey Barbour of Barbour Farms, WV.
