Pala 49 eggplant produces dark purple, almost black and long fruits with a curve at blossom end. Flavorful, multi-purpose fruits can be used for stews, jams as well as in stuffing and pickling recipes.
When we used to farm in Florida, we noticed that the fruits of Pala 49 developed on higher branches without touching ground so that they didn’t rot in wet soil conditions. This is a mid-season Turkish eggplant.
Our current seed stock was grown by the farmers at Sprouting Farms (now closed) in West Virginia.

The seeds had great germination rate and the plants did very well too. However, it wasn’t as prolific as I thought it would be. Although, it is also possible that I may have been my mistake since this was my first time growing eggplants.
