Description

Moderately productive greasy bean from the Dingess Family of Chapmanville, West Virginia. Seeds of cut-short beans typically grow so tightly in pods that the mature seeds tend to have flat ends. This is also a greasy bean meaning that the pods have a glossy look when they reach 3-3.5″.

Greasy bean pods can be harvested at leathery stage when they are full of plump seeds and de-stringed to be boiled or cooked in other ways. This is an exceptionally meaty and flavorful bean. Pods are green when young. 75-80 days from seed to harvest. Originally from seed saver Frank Barnett’s collection.

Our current seed stock was grown by farmer Evan Morgan of New Roots Community Farm in Fayetteville, WV.
