Community Seed Space Housekeeping Rules

This space wasn't designed for seed exchange between members. Instead, we created it to offer an interactive environment to:

1) answer our customers' questions on saving seeds and gardening,

2) answer questions on our seed varieties and catalog,

3) post announcements from our company.

Practice Community Care
We are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation. Please aim to leave this community better than you found it, and for your contributions to be beneficial in the real world.

With your help, site administrators and moderators will help us keep our community healthy and relevant through the following actions:

Disagree With Purpose and Respect Lived Experience
You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But please do so in the spirit of raising critical questions. This isn’t a place for tone-policing or defensiveness.

Please keep in mind, not all unflattering statements constitute personal attacks, and individuals from different backgrounds may experience the same situations or interact with the same individuals differently.

Please refrain from being dismissive or seeking to discredit first-hand accounts shared by individuals simply because they may not reflect your own personal experience.

Please keep in mind that digital spaces (e.g. email, social media, forums) may have their shortcomings as far as understanding people's actual intentions and feelings. We don't see each other's faces on this platform, and everyone has a different discourse. In addition, English is not the first language some of our members speak which may make them put their thoughts into writing in different ways than speakers of English as their first language, which is also the primary language of this space. In any case, if a message from a member in response to yours is confusing to you or if you are unsure what to feel about it, please consider replying with an intent to seek clarification before making assumptions.

If You See a Problem, Flag It
If you see behavior you think is problematic, please flag it. Diverse communities don't always share the same definitions, and community discourse is not always best served by prioritizing comfort over conflict. However, if enough flags accrue, any mitigation actions deemed necessary can be taken, either automatically or by moderator intervention.

In order to maintain our community, moderators reserve the right to remove any content and any user account for any reason that violates or threatens the spirit and practices of this community. When/if a post is removed, moderators will provide the reason for the removal. Moderators do not preview new posts; moderators and site operators take no responsibility for any content posted by the community members.

Keep It Tidy
Make the effort to put things in the right place, so that we can spend more time discussing and less cleaning up. Hence:

• Please start your thread in the relevant category/thread. Posts/replies that don't belong to a relevant category will be moved under the relevant category.

• Please avoid cross-posting the same message in multiple topics or threads so that we can keep this space organized.

• Please post replies with content in them.

• Please do your best to stay focused on the original topic when you post under a thread.

• Please note that you may add your social media links to your profile if you want other people to find and interact with you on social media.

• Please use the "Heart" button located at the bottom left corner of a post to express gratitude to the content of that post and to avoid clutter if your only response to the original post will be "Thank you." You can anytime undo your virtual "like."
• Please note that you are encouraged to use the image button to insert images to your posts, especially when the image you would like to share supports your point or question or if it is related to a success or failure story in your garden or seed work.
• Please also note that you can use the emoji button to express various forms of feelings in your post or your reply to a post. That being said, virtual spaces are strange so we are also asking you to avoid emojis that can be perceived as pretentious or dismissive.

Site Administrators
All administrators are here to maintain the functionality of this community space. Please be patient with them for outstanding issues that require their attention since they are either farmers and/or they work on other farm and seed related projects or have other obligations when they aren't here.

This community space isn't an outreach component of or funded by any grants. None of the administrators or moderators are paid to take care of the tasks on this website's front or backend.
