90-100 days. Ege Long Yellow Ribbed is only one of the many traditional Turgutlu-type melons of Western Türkiye. Large, long fruits have bright to golden yellow color and green/gray stripes. Light green flesh color fades to white at seed core. This is a very sweet and juicy variety with impressive shelf life, thanks to its thick rind, like other Turgutlu-type melons.
Cassaba (kasaba in Turkish) melons are originally from Turgutlu of Manisa, Türkiye, where they have been stewarded in Western Türkiye for thousands of years. Hence, we will identify them as Turgutlu-type melons in our catalog.
Turgutlu-type melons first appeared in American seed catalogs in early 1800’s, and stayed popular until the first quarter of the 19th century. Moreover, the first colored illustration of them first appeared in Aggeler & Musser Seed Co’s 1908 catalog.
