Malatya Brown is a desi-type chickpea from Malatya, Turkey, with very small, reddish dark brown seed color and thick seed coat. This chickpea cooks very fast and has an outstanding flavor. Desi-type chickpeas are typically used in stews and can be grounded to make gluten-free flour. Our original stock seed came from the USDA germplasm and was collected in Turkey decades ago.
Our current seed stock was grown by Cody Egan of Driftless Seeds in Decorah, IA. Driftless Seeds is certified organic by the Iowa Organic Certification Program.
