Commercially introduced by Two Seeds in a Pod Heirloom Seed Co
Cekirdegi Oyali is hands down the most unique watermelon we have ever grown. Seeds of this variety have hand-carved looking patterns on the surface. While this is a Turkish variety, unfortunately, we don’t know its exact locality. One data source told us that it belongs to Ovali Village (probably of Tokat Province), Northern Turkey, and another source noted that the variety belongs to Denizli Province, Western Turkey. We collected the seeds for it in Izmir. Although the variety is regionally known as Cizgili, Duali or Yazili; it deserved an alternative name to best describe its unusual seeds; hence Mehmet Oztan decided to name it Çekirdegi Oyalı, roughly translates to English as hand-carved seeds.
Fruits of this variety weigh 3-4 lbs. Cekirdegi Oyali is a productive and sweet delight with red flesh.
